Track trips, capture deductions, and stay reimbursement-ready without the hassle.
We're always looking for ways to improve systems for our clients, especially when it comes to keeping cleaner records throughout the year.
One area that comes up often is business mileage tracking. Accurate mileage records can help support tax deductions, owner and employee reimbursements, accountable plan documentation, and easier year-end tax preparation.
DAR has partnered with MileIQ, a mileage tracking platform designed for both individual business owners and teams.
As part of this partnership, DAR clients can receive 20% off an annual MileIQ subscription using referral code DARMILES.
Business mileage can support valuable tax deductions, but the IRS requires accurate, contemporaneous records to substantiate those deductions. Many business owners rely on estimates or reconstruct records at year-end — an approach that creates risk and often leads to missed opportunities.
Proper mileage tracking throughout the year helps reduce reliance on estimates, supports a smoother tax preparation process, and keeps your documentation organized when you need it most.
The IRS requires records that show the date, destination, business purpose, and miles driven for each trip. Estimates and reconstructed logs are not ideal substitutes for contemporaneous records.
We recommend MileIQ because it automates the tracking process, simplifies business vs. personal trip classification, and generates organized mileage reports ready for tax, bookkeeping, and reimbursement purposes.
MileIQ runs in the background and logs every drive automatically — no manual entries required.
Swipe right for business, left for personal. Classify trips in seconds directly from your phone.
Generate mileage reports on demand — formatted and ready to share with your accountant.
Arrive at tax season with complete, well-organized mileage documentation already in place.

Mileage tracking supports more than deductions. It can also help document reimbursements for owners and employees when your business uses an accountable plan.
Support deductions with accurate, contemporaneous records.
Document employee mileage for proper reimbursement.
Track owner vehicle use for accountable plan compliance.
Create the paper trail needed to support your plan.
Keep bookkeeping clean and organized year-round.
There are three ways to get started depending on whether you are a new or existing user. Choose the option that applies to you below.
Contact DAR by responding to this email and we will send you a direct invite through the MileIQ portal. Click the link to sign in or create an account. If the invite does not work initially, create a free account on the MileIQ website first, then return to the link and accept it again.
Sign up through the MileIQ website first — not through the App Store or Google Play. Use referral code DARMILES during signup or when prompted for a promotion code. After your account is created, download the app and sign in with the same email and password.
You may be able to apply the referral code when upgrading your subscription. Go to Account Settings → Subscriptions → Get Unlimited Drives → Upgrade to Annual. On the billing page, select Add Promotion Code and enter DARMILES.
Do not create your MileIQ account through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store as your first step. Referral codes and invitations may not connect properly through the app stores, and you may lose access to the annual discount associated with the DARMILES referral code.
The correct sequence is: website signup → apply referral code → download app → sign in.
If you already have a MileIQ account, follow these steps to apply the referral code when upgrading to an annual subscription.
Open MileIQ and navigate to your Account Settings.
Select the Subscriptions section from the menu.
Choose the option to Get Unlimited Drives.
Select Upgrade to Annual on the subscription page.
On the billing page, select Add Promotion Code and enter DARMILES.
Review and classify your drives regularly — not at year-end. The easiest time to document mileage is when the trip occurs, not months later during tax season.
When you wait until tax season to sort through months of unclassified drives, details fade and errors creep in. A few minutes each week reviewing your MileIQ drive log keeps your records accurate, defensible, and ready when your accountant needs them.
